Second...Fitness

In my first 6 week experiment to let go of extra body weight, I did not exercise.

I just concentrated on what I was eating.

So, if you are just beginning this journey, I highly recommend - only concentrate on what you are eating.
If you feel you can incorporate exercise into your process now here is the first exercise I want to show you.

I enjoy fitness videos, classes and books. I actually love to move my body. Yet, it still takes a lot of mental energy to get myself going.

The exercises I often see in print and online are aspirational. Meaning - when I try to replicate them - they are at the level of fitness and achievement of the expert, not me. This is not a slam on the professionals. Obviously, I want to mirror proper form and the fully realized exercise.

I have learned from many wonderful teachers in my life. The best have shown me “modifications” to exercises that appear overwhelming to me or for times when I’m just not as strong or flexible that day. These modifications address the same muscles and actions, but are just not at the same exertion level as the originals. They are there to launch your fitness.

I will be showing you modifications in concert with expert videos.

Plus, I will demonstrate foundational exercises that you can use to help you ignite sleepy muscles, get to know your body more so that you do exercises safely and efficiently.

These simple moves and postures will eventually become a warm up and can be done individually throughout your day even when you are not exercising as they will benefit your general health.

First...Food

Starting now, whenever “now” is for you, document what you are eating.
Document everything you put into that beautiful mouth of yours for TWO WEEKS.

Jot it down in the way that is easy and sustainable for YOU. Here are some examples.:

  • take a pic

  • use an app

  • use notes on your phone

  • if you’re a high achieving, crafty, artsy thing you - bullet journal it!

  • use the voice memo thingie on your phone

  • write it down using a pencil and paper

  • scream into the void (not recommended in this exercise)

This is research!
Try your best to put judgement aside. This is research.
You can even say that out loud to yourself, to your dog or cat or whatever.
This is research!

Give yourself a break!
You just want to make yourself aware of what you have been eating.

After two weeks add this to your research - NOTES:

  • the time of day you ate that food

  • how you felt right before you put that in your mouth

  • how you felt after you ate

  • the event or moment. I.e. Having drinks with friends or the boss just chewed me out

Perfection is a disease!
You get where I’m going here? Please do you best to try not to prescribe your actions and motives as you are doing this research. You’ll fight me on this. I know. Because I’ve done it. You already know why you are doing something. Uh huh. Or look back after a week and decide you’ve got it all figured out. You are smart and you are amazing. Learning about yourself is hard work, courageous and rewarding. Take the time to do this. Yes, there will be blatantly obvious patterns that you will see right away, but allow yourself the time to do the research. To be an outside observer of yourself.

  • You do not want to devote hours and loads of moolah to take on all of the trending projects, products and potions.

  • You want to watch me (and future guests) unfiltered with all the lumps, bumps and imperfections right here, right now improve their health.

  • You wonder whether it’s possible to realize: wherever you are, no matter your age, weight or complicated relationship status you have with food and fitness --you can get healthy and eventually achieve………...FLAT ABS!!

I am on the road to better health, doing it my way, with loads of help from friends and sources I’ve found on and off the internet. My health is all I have. Though that is a huge, dire, and paramount statement I just made - my approach is simple, gentle, flexible and sustainable.
